Last weekend some of our band students participated in the first ever Great River Conference JH All Conference Honor Band! Students from 9 schools in our conference were nominated to participate in two different honor bands, Pine City brought 19 amazing 6-9th grade students. They got to rehearse all day with amazing clinicians - Milaca HS band director Andy Nelson, and Princeton band director James Baxter. The concert at the end of the day was full of energy, wonderful musicianship, and support from so many friends and families.

5th graders have been enjoying their science unit focused on Destination Mars! In this particular lesson students were creating boxes for shipping back rock, water, and soil samples to Earth. They found the volume of individual boxes and then designed a container to fit all three inside in the most space efficient way. We love hands-on learning!

PCHS College Algebra students were supposed to go to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus on Tuesday Jan 6th for our College Algebra Field Day and Modeling competition, unfortunately due to the weather, we had to cancel the trip, but presented our project virtually to UofM staff, faculty and students. Our project this year investigated student discipline reports, and tried to notice data trends and find ways to help curb student discipline reports. PCHS seniors took 3rd place in the competition this year, even though they couldn't actually attend!

On Thursday, January 8th a group of 6th graders traveled to St. Cloud State University with Mrs. Blake and Mrs. Adams to participate in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Conference. Students made lures, built structures, learned about amethysts and other rocks, the science behind the yo-yo, and maybe even tasted a cricket. It was a great day of learning.
