Students in Mrs. Shearer's American Sign Language (ASL) class combined creativity and learning in a hands-on art activity. Each student painted their hand to resemble an iconic ASL sign — from animals, to sports, to food! They then brought the signs to life through movement. Students have been thinking about their sign for the last few weeks and are excited to share their designs!

The Pine City CTE Department recently had Barry Norenberg from McNally Industries visit them to talk about careers in manufacturing and engineering with their company in Grantsburg WI. They produce many complex products and parts for the United States Department of Defense. Some of these careers are in machining, welding, assembly, and testing. McNally products include gun components, mortar weapon systems bipods, aviation ground support equipment, rotor blade handling clamps, specialty pumping systems, electronics for cooling pumps, ammunition handling systems, and upgrades for Bradley fighting vehicles. It is very beneficial for the CTE students to know that there are high tech jobs for them to pursue in the local area. After the holiday season the CTE Department is looking forward to attending the Construct Tomorrow conference in Hinckley MN. They would like to wish everyone a happy and restful holiday season. Go Dragons! 🐉🛠🎄

Mr. Eichten's woodworking students have been working diligently on designing their own personal clocks. Many of the students chose to laser engrave bucks on their clocks due to it being deer season. Some of these students even harvested their first whitetail bucks this year! Great job guys and keep up the good work! Go Dragons!

Mr. Schlichting was the tour guide for PCHS Juniors and Seniors who chose to participate in Pine County Manufacturing Day hosted by Pine Technical and Community College. Students checked out the new REC facility for student housing and then a tour of PTCC along with a Career Fair set up by local manufacturing facilities. After a pizza lunch the gang headed to Atscott Manufacturing and Broekema Beltway to see the many exciting career opportunities in manufacturing. Some of the highlights were the 80-120 foot retractable towers being sent to Israel for communication along with the 120 being already used along the US Mexico border. Laser cutting, water jet, inspection, finishing, assembly, welding, programming, vulcanizing were some of the many processes observed. PCHS recently has been approved by the MN Department of Labor for Youth Skills Training (YST) with a partnership with Atscott Mfg. where students can work on the job as young as 16 years old at a manufacturing facility.
